Australian Opal Pendant Andamooka Matrix rainbow pinfire 14k gold fill wire wrapped

A beautiful  20 mm piece of Andamooka Matrix with a vibrant gemmy flashes of red along with blue, green and orange pinfire that appear and disappear as you move the stone.  It looks black in normal light, and I have taken photos in direct sunlight to show the range of colour that hides deep within. This opal has been treated with heat and sugar to darken the background and bring out the colour. I have wire wrapped it in 14k gold filled wire and beads and the finished pendant is 30mm long. It comes on a free gold plated chain in an organza bag. A very different and beautiful rare gemstone, totally unique.

Andamooka opal comes from a small outback town in South Australia. The work involved in mining this opal, the small field it comes from and the gorgeous results mean that it is a unique and more rare type of Australian opal. There is not much material coming from this field these days and therefore this type of opal is becoming more rare. It has ‘pinfire’ flash, little specks of colour in a host stone, and the greater the concentration the more brilliant the colour.
